The Route
🏔️ Route Character
Because it's a circular route, walkers break the Anglesey Coast Path into six natural sections, from the rugged cliffs of Holyhead to the superb South Stack Lighthouse, the dunes of Newborough, the Menai Strait, and the wild northern headlands.
The terrain is varied but accessible, making it ideal for intermediate walkers or committed beginners wanting a multi-day coastal journey.

- Section 1 — Holyhead → Trearddur → Rhoscolyn — Cliffs, sea arches and rugged headlands — a dramatic start with big Atlantic views.
- Section 2 — Rhoscolyn → Aberffraw → Newborough — Beaches, dunes, forest and tidal estuaries, including Newborough Warren and views of Llanddwyn Island.
- Section 3 — Newborough → Menai Bridge — Woodland, quiet lanes and the Menai Strait — gentle terrain with superb views.
- Section 4 — Menai Bridge → Moelfre → Lligwy — Classic Anglesey coastline, fishing villages and rocky coves.
- Section 5 — Lligwy → Amlwch → Cemaes — Wild, rugged cliffs, industrial heritage and open headlands — one of the best sections.
- Section 6 — Cemaes → Church Bay → Holyhead — Remote cliffs, sea stacks and lighthouse views, finishing at South Stack.
Practical
⚠️ Difficulty & Hazards
- Navigation: Generally easy — well-waymarked; still carry a map and GPX.
- Terrain: Cliffs, beaches, dunes, estuaries, farmland and occasional steep headlands.
- Fitness: Manageable daily mileage for intermediate walkers and fit beginners.
- Weather: Anglesey can be windy, exposed and rapidly changing; check Met Office coastal forecasts.
- Accommodation: B&Bs, pubs and campsites — book ahead in summer.
