MARK Bristly Ridge
Bristly Ridge is one of Snowdonia's great scrambling lines — a steep, dramatic, hands-on ascent from Bwlch Tryfan to the shattered summit plateau of Glyder Fach. It's atmospheric, exposed, and unforgettable, with narrow pinnacles, deep gullies, and huge rock architecture throughout. This is a serious Grade 1–2 scramble: steeper and more committing than Tryfan's North Ridge, but still achievable for confident scramblers without ropes. A true Welsh classic.

Bristly Ridge is steep, narrow, and dramatic — a proper mountaineering ridge with real exposure and constant hands-on movement. The character shifts as you climb: Sinister Gully — steep, enclosed, committing; Main Ridge — spicy positions, narrow pinnacles; Exit Slab — short, exposed slab leading to the plateau; Glyder Fach summit — shattered rock and huge views.
It's more serious than Tryfan's North Ridge — steeper, narrower, and more exposed — but still within Grade 1–2 territory for confident scramblers. This is one of the best ridge scrambles in Wales.

- 1. Ogwen Cottage → Bwlch Tryfan — A steady climb on rocky paths. Tryfan rises to the left; Glyder Fach towers ahead.
- 2. Bwlch Tryfan → Bristly Ridge Start — The ridge begins immediately. Multiple lines exist — the safest is Sinister Gully (left-hand gully).
- 3. Sinister Gully — Steep, enclosed scrambling. Hands-on throughout. Atmospheric and committing.
- 4. Main Ridge — The ridge opens above the gully. Narrow pinnacles, exposed steps, and dramatic rock architecture. Route-finding matters.
- 5. The Great Pinnacle — The most dramatic section — spicy positions and steep moves. Multiple lines exist; all require care.
- 6. Exit Slab — A short, exposed slab leads onto the shattered summit plateau of Glyder Fach.
- 7. Glyder Fach Summit — Huge views across Snowdonia. The famous Cantilever Stone sits nearby.
- 8. Descent Options — Glyder Fach → Glyder Fawr → Devil's Kitchen → Ogwen — long, scenic; Glyder Fach → Bwlch Tryfan → Heather Terrace → Ogwen — safest; Glyder Fach → Y Garn → Ogwen — big horseshoe.
