Sutton Bank is a dramatic limestone escarpment with huge, open views over the Vale of York. The Cleveland Way runs directly along it, making this one of the most accessible stretches of a national trail in England.
The walking is gentle and family-friendly, with the White Horse of Kilburn below the ridge and the famous glider launch site above it.

- Option 1 — Cliff-Top Loop · ~3–4 km · 1–1.5 h · Sutton Bank National Park Centre — Follow the Cleveland Way along the escarpment to the main viewpoint (panoramic Vale of York views), continue to the glider launch site, then loop back via woodland paths. The easiest route with the best viewpoints.
- Option 2 — White Horse of Kilburn Route · ~7–10 km · 2–3 h — Follow the escarpment south, descend to the White Horse viewpoint, climb back to the ridge, and return along the Cleveland Way. An iconic landmark with more varied terrain and superb ridge walking.
- Option 3 — Cleveland Way Section (linear) · flexible 3–12 km · 1–4 h — Walk north or south along the Cleveland Way and turn around at your chosen point. Ideal for beginners and perfect for sunrise or sunset.
